Education

Members of the Association of Authorized Tourist Guides qualify to wear the emblem of 3 towers by obtaining a diploma for their education. The study takes place at the Roskilde University Centre and the duration is one year on a full time basis. The course is for mature students and requires a skill in languages. The course has been awarded 60 ECTS-points and is the equivalent of further education or a bachelor degree.
There are 2 modules for the course and they can be completed in 2 stages.

Module 1
Denmark module. Generally speaking, this is theoretical knowledge about Denmark and Danish opinions, as seen through international eyes. There is a focus on the international understanding of culture. The education is built up with courses on Danish history, art, culture, geography, social structure and Danish tourism, based on workshops and projects. The students are also taught how to search for relevant information. The module is concluded by a written examination, which gives access to the next and final module 2 and the diploma.

Module 2
This module is designed for the tourist trade, with the focus is on cultural communication in coaches, on walking tours and sights of interest for specific groups that visit Denmark.
This module is concluded by a test in the planning of a possible tour in Denmark plus the practical test in the form of a diploma project. Here the student is required to design and execute a bus and walking tour in Copenhagen and demonstrate their ability to communicate in both Danish and a pre-determined foreign language.

All examinations have an external censor from the tourist trade: the incoming fraction, Visit Denmark, coach companies, the Regional Museum’s Council and the Association of Authorized Tourist Guides.

The students graduate in April, ready for the new tourist season.
Students for the new semester sit an entrance examination in May.
